Days of Dutch Film
Cultural Information Centre “Budo Tomović”, Podgorica, 18 – 19 February 2007
Recent Dutch cinematography was presented in Podgorica. Feature film “Simon” (Eddy Terstall), four long documentaries (by Gerrit van Elst and John Appel) and the short animated Oscar winner “Father and Daughter” by Michael Dudok de Wit were shown. Movies were selected by the well known film expert Nebojsa Popovic. Author of the movie “Simon”, famous Dutch filmmaker Eddy Terstall was at the opening of the “Days of Dutch Film’ and he held a lecture and had a discussion with students of the Cetinje Film Academy. Knocking on the SEE Gate – Visit of Paul Scheffer

Political thinker and author from The Netherlands, Mr. Paul Scheffer, came to Serbia to present his observations on the political and wider social situation in the Netherlands and the Dutch experience of multiculturalism.

One local representative from each of those four cities joined Mr. Scheffer, and gave their local perspective on issues of regional relations.
50th Anniversary of the Rome Treaties

The event “Europe – A Musical Journey, Festive Event and Concert on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Rome treaties” was initiated by the German Embassy (EU chairman from January to July 2007) to celebrate signing of the Rome Treaties.
Forum Belgrade

Forum Belgrade is a conference of representatives of the civil society (mainly cultural sector), business policy makers and politicians from Serbia, the Balkans and Europe, as well as representatives of the European Union institutions. The conference, consisting of lectures, presentations and discussions, took place in Sava Centre, Belgrade.
Art Interventions Presentation
O3one, 12 April 2007
“Art Interventions” project, consisting of several workshops and seminars with participation of foreign artists took place in Majdanpek from 19 August to 20 September 2006. Artists from the Netherlands that took part in this project are Anne Schiffer, Danielle Davidson and Jan Adriaans. The final part of this project is presentation by producing the project catalogue and exhibiting works in Belgrade in organisation of “NGO “ArtLink”. The presentation took place on 12 April 2007 in the gallery O3one.
Regional Dance Programme
“Madlenianum”, Zemun, 1 – 19 April 2007
On the eve of the IV Belgrade Dance Festival, and thanks to the initiative of the Nederlands Dans Theater and with the help of Dutch funds, the region was united for the first time on the realization of a joint dance programme.
Twenty selected young professional dancers from the countries of South-East Europe, were working in Belgrade from April 1 to April 19 on a programme, learning parts of three ballets by Jiri Kylian: Evening Songs, Sechs Tanze and Whereabouts Uknown.
The selection of the dancers meant auditions in Maribor, Rijeka, Skoplje, Belgrade, Novi Sad and Sofia, the following dates:
9 March, Maribor, National Theater, Slovenia (+ ballet from Ljubljana)
10 March, Rijeka, National Theater, Croatia (+ ballets from Zagreb and Split)
12 March, Skopje, National Theater, Macedonia (+ ballet from Tirana)
13 March, Sofia, National Theater, Bulgaria
14 March, Novi Sad, Serbian National Theater, Serbia
14 March, Belgrade, Opera Madlenianum, Zemun, Serbia
The selection of dancers was made by two permanent assistants of the famous choreographer and former dancers of the Nederlands Dans Theater, Hans Knill and Elke Schepers. The programme was conducted by the Nederlands Dans Theater ballet masters Hans Knill, Arlette van Boven, Cora Bos Kroese and Ken Ossola.In cooperation with the Faculty of Dramatic Arts a documentary was made during the programme. The presentation of this unique programme and the documentary is a public showing that took place on 19 April at 20 hours, on the stage of the Opera Madlenianum in Zemun, as part of the IV Belgrade Dance Festival.Regional Dance Programme will be presented in some of the theaters in the region in the fall 2007.

The Nederlands Danse Theater company opened this years manifestation, on April 14 in Sava Centar. The triptych that they brought is made of two choreographies by the master Jiří Kylián and choreography by the choreographers duo Lightfoot-Leon.

Belgrade Design Week

Belgrade Design Week is combination of a business and educational conference “change2” and a citywide cultural festival “beograd2”.
Its conference program is aimed at the mixed audience of business professionals (designers, architects, publishers, branding and advertising experts), media, and government institutions involved in state branding, making the country more competitive in the global market. Themes of the Belgrade Design Week are branding a country, female creativity, innovative publishing and a country partner.
Country partner is a new platform for learning and exchange within the Belgrade Design Week and the Netherlands is chosen to be the first country partner of the BDW. Famous designers, architects and publishers from the Netherlands participated – Hella Jongerius, Rem Koolhaas, Winka Dubbeldam, Droog Design, FRAME magazine…
International Harp Festival

The Dutch harpist Lavinia Meijer held a concert/recital in the framework of the 6th International Harp Festival. The recital took place on 13 May 2007 in the Kolarac concert hall. The festival was organised by the Serbian Association of Harpists.
Servant of Two Masters
National Theatre, Užice, July 2007 – June 2008
“The Servant of two Masters” is a play based on the text of Carlo Goldoni. The play is staged by the National Theatre from Užice in cooperation with organisations and artists from Serbia, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. Andre Pronk, light designer and Jan Klug, composer, sound and multimedia technician from the Grand Theatre Groningen assisted in staging of this theatre performance. The play was premiered at the 39th International Theatre Festival of the Venice Biennale in July 2007. The premier in Serbia will be in the framework of the BITEF Festival in September 2007. It will also be on the regular repertoire of the Uzice National Theatre and it will be played at festivals and in theatres in Serbia and abroad (La MaMa Theatre in New York in May 2008 and possibly in Italy, the Netherlands and Germany).

The Dutch organ player and pedagogue Liuwe Tamminga held a concert and participated in the Summer Organ School in the framework of the 7th International Festival “The Days of Organs”, organised by the Belgrade Cultural Centre.

Bilingual bulletin “Paukenslag!”

Publishing of a bilingual (Serbian/Dutch) bulletin “Paukenslag!” containing translations and reviews of the Dutch and Flemish literature, reports over theatrical, musical, and artistic events and happenings of all other sorts, which are connected with the Low Countries, scientific events of the same sort, interviews with persons working on the Low Countries-related projects and events, author’s supplements – poems, stories, feuilletons, columns, etc.
Center for the scientific and cultural exchange between Serbia and Dutch speaking countries “ARIUS” will publish the bulletin.

Project fostering cooperation between several international institutions (De Brakke Grond, De Appel, Maison Decartes, Goethe Institut, Romanian Cultural Institut), which started in January 2007 in Amsterdam and was coordinated by the Netherlands Institute for Media Arts / Montevideo Time Based Arts. The project in Belgrade consists of two exhibitions: Ready Media, curator Maria Rus Bojan, Director of Project Stichting Amsterdam and CORCORAN, curator Zoran Eric, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Belgrade.
Émigré’s Waltz at BEMUS

The “Émigré’s Waltz” represents a new encounter with the music of five distinguished Serbian female composers ‘absent’ from Belgrade music life for years, developing their various professional activities abroad – Milica Paranosić, Nataša Bogojević and Katarina Miljković in the USA, Ana Mihajlović in the Netherlands, and Dijana Bošković in Germany. Their compositions, many of them being premieres, were performed by exceptional ensembles and soloists from the countries where the composers live and who specialize in contemporary music and multimedia expression.
The multimedia concert took place in the framework of the 39th Belgrade Music Festival – BEMUS.
Performance of the Boi Arih Trio at Novi Sad Jazz Festival

A concert of Monika Akihary and her Boi Arih Trio was organised in the framework of the ninth Novi Sad Jazz Festival. Concert took place on 15 November in the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad.
Monika Akihary is considered to be one of the best jazz vocalists in the Netherlands. She is originally from Molucca and, together with Niels Brouwer on acoustic guitar and Sandip Bhattacharys on Indian percussion, she reshapes the traditional music of Moluccan islands, combining it with jazz, Latin and soul.

Regional Dance Program

The dancers and ballet masters were reunited again in November in order to present the Regional Dance Programme in the cities from which the selected dancers come from. This time ballet masters Elke Schepers and Yvan Dubreuil were working with the dancers. After practicing in Belgrade, the Regional Dance Program tour started by presentation in Pozoriste mladih in Novi Sad on Saturday 24 November. Presentation in Hrvatski kulturni dom na Suaku in Rijeka took place on 26 November and in Macedonian Opera and Ballet in Skopje on 28 November. The tour ended in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia on 30 November. In addition to the presentation of the Regional Dance Programe, ballet masters of the Nederlands Dance Theater, Elke Schepers and Yvan Dubreuil, held master classes in Novi Sad and Sofia.
Alternative Video Festival

Participation of the Dutch artist Ron Sluik at the round table discussions in the framework of the Alternative Video Festival that will take place in Belgrade from 5 until 9 December 2007. Alternative Video Festival (www.alternativefilmvideo.org) is organised by the Academic Film Centre.
Discussion with students
Faculty of Philology, Belgrade, 19 December 2007
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ron J.P.M. van Dartel had discussion with students of the Department for Netherlands Studies of the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. Students were curious about many issues regarding the Netherlands, but also Embassy activities, bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Serbia, economic cooperation... Ms. Anne-Sietske Brinks, Second Secretary of the Embassy participated in the discussion as well.
